A voluntary renunciation to Egyptian citizenship is valid only after obtaining prior approval from an official. The person must seek presidential approval to give up their Egyptian citizenship. In the event that authorization is not granted dual citizenship may be granted in default.

In all instances of the losing citizenship the president’s decree is required. Because of the uncertainty caused by the focus on prior authorization, any questions related to losing citizenship should be addressed to the Egyptian Embassy if you’re located in a different country.
