Apply for the Manufacture, Sale and Importation License of Fishing Appliances In Uganda By Yourself

  1. A person cannot make or import, sell, exhibit for sale fishing nets or other fishing devices without written authorization from the Head Fisheries Officer.You can access their website at the following link
  2. First step sending an application in writing to the Chief Fisheries Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries office for a manufacturing or export, display and display nets, and importation licences for fishing equipment.
  3. before the applicant can be granted permission to produce, sell and import fishing devices, the Authority will verify that the applicant is in compliance with the necessary requirements for the operation before granting a License to this effect.
  4. The person applying for a license to the sale, manufacture and importation of fishing equipment must be in compliance with a prescribed Form as per the schedule of the Regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
  5. The application should be accompanied with a fee as specified within the Schedule as well as the rules of the ordinance.
  6. The applicant in addition to the fees mentioned above , make sure that fishing equipment is in compliance with the requirements of the Ministry of Agriculture and fisheries.
  7. When everything’s in order, then you can proceed to the next stage and make an application to production, sale, and import fishing equipment through the Fisheries Department in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
  8. Once the payment has been received, the application will be processed within four working days.
  9. The license is valid for a for one year, and it is possible to begin operations right away.
  10. Be sure to pay all dues and levies in the event that they are applicable. Other terms and conditions for issuance of the License must be adhered to (Non-compliance could result in suspension of the License)

Required Documents For Apply for the Manufacture, Sale and Importation License of Fishing Appliances

  • The applicant must posses a Certificate of registration/Incorporation
  • Valid import Certificate or Permits / Licenses from the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Industry:
  • Certificate of origin issued by the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry for exports intended for countries that are not part of COMESA.
  • A phytosanitary certificate issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries (MAAIF)
  • The list of all parking lists/tally sheets is for imported and manufactured appliances.
  • Tax invoices for the manufactured or imported appliances.
  • A valid passport to give the person applying for it.
  • Import license for fishing obtained from the minister of Agriculture Animal industry and fisharies
  • The specification of the List of Appliances and the total number
  • Tax Pass and TIN numbers from Uganda revenue Authority
  • Appliance Details and their manufacturer specifications
  • Conceptual plan for the manufacturing business
  • COMESA certification of origin issued by UEPB for products coming from COMESA countries.
  • Health certificates from MAAIF for exporting fish.
  • Evidence of payment of taxes(export tax) from URA
  • Proforma Invoice for all imported and imported appliances
  • Sales Contract with the manufacturer and supplier
  • Commercial Invoices are required in the event of indirect purchases

  • At least 18 years old.
  • Join a BMU certified member or dealer association.
  • The Applicant must possess a Certificate of incorporation as well as Articles of association.

  • Costs of application for manufacturing and importation of the fish-related appliances USh.10,000
  • Importation License for Fishing Appliances for Importation costs is USh.1,000,000

Validity

  • The period of validity for manufacturing, sales and importation of the fishing equipment is typically 1 year.

  • To protect the public, those who apply for a fishing license to import equipment are required by law to purchase a fishing equipment with permit to shield the people from the dangers that can arise from the supply of substandard products as well as for example, the Ministry of agriculture animal industry and fisheries demands that anyone who plans to import a fishing equipment should apply for the manufacture and import, sales and display nets and importation licences of fishing equipment.
