Apply for Temporary Nursing/midwives License (trained outside) In Uganda By Online
- Nurses and midwives who was trained outside of Uganda must be licensed by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC). Successful candidates must fill out their application for registration as well as licensure within 30 days of the announcement of results.
- Completely submit a set of supporting documents at least prior to your arrival in Uganda:
- The following documents must be submitted to be included with the application to obtain a temporary Nursing or Midwives Licence for applicants who have completed their training outside of Uganda.
- A letter of inquiry for registration that outlines where and when you’ll be in Uganda and also the section of the roll or register you would like to be taken into consideration for.
- Contact information – best to have your email address.
- An original copy of your proof of registration – the original must be carried to the interview.
- Check the current status of your license by the registration body if you have one; fill out the form.
- A transcript of the training that outlines the theoretical and practical hours.
- A short CV that outlines the experience gained post registration and your skills.
- Reference from current employer.
- For applicants who are applying for temporary registration less than three months require an invitation from the Ugandan licensed nurse or midwife, who accepts the responsibility of supervising your practice in Uganda and an original copy of their certification.
- A photocopy of ID in case the certificate doesn’t have a photograph that is original to be carried to the interview.
- 3 passports in black and white photos – 5cm x 5.5cm.
- For those whose primary language isn’t English and the nurse training was not provided in English The applicant must provide a copy of their IELTS score of 6.0 or greater and the original copy to be presented at the time of interview.

- Documents written that are written in languages other than English should be translated by a certified translation.
- Once all the documents are provided at the UNMC you are invited to an interview in the presence of registration as well as enrollment committee. These usually are held on every Wednesday in the month. You may decide to schedule your arrival to Uganda considering this. However, exceptions to this can be considered if the time of your assignment in Uganda is extremely brief.
- The applicant has to pay an amount. There is a charge for the interview of $50. it covers a talk on health care in Uganda and the work and responsibilities of the Council and the license that is limited to allow the practice of medicine under direct supervision for the time of your attachment.
- Following your interview, you’ll be required to undergo an supervised period of time before registering for registration UNMC.
- If you’ve successfully met the requirements of the attachment, you’ll be able to apply for registration through the Council. The registration fee is $200 per qualification that includes the complete licensing fee for your initial 3 years of training in Uganda.
- After registration and licensing are completed, nurses and midwives will be issued a temporary nursing and midwives ‘ practicing licenses.

Information that can be useful
- In addition to the provisions in the Nurses Act or in any regulations thereunder, any person is entitled to be registered on the proper register if he can prove to the Council that they are good-looking in good standing and who has paid the required registration feeand;
- completed a prescribed course of instruction, and has completed the required examination or required by the Council has passed the appropriate examination conducted or prescribed by the Council;
- The person has completed a course in training and passed an exam other than in Uganda and which the Council considers to be equivalent to the instruction and instruction that is required for those educated to be trained in Uganda or equivalent to qualifications by means of an exam that is required by the Nurses Act.
- It is the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council uses this document to ensure that all nurses under the area of jurisdiction have a suitable standard of competence to offer nurse and midwife services.
