  1. The couple that is planning to marry must show up in person to the Registry of Marriages in their respective district to be interviewed.
  2. The couple who are planning to marry should complete the Notice of Marriage before the Registrar of Marriages Marriage Note
  3. Then you will be issued an assessment form to make your payments at any bank they choose.
  4. The register will then issue an announcement to the public about the Marriage by putting notices on the Registrar of Marriages’ notice board for 21 days.
  5. If there aren’t any objections to the marriage certificate the marriage will be legally registered and the wedding ceremony be performed within 21 calendar days, but not earlier than ninety calendar days. Weddings are held on a Monday through Friday between 10am and 4pm The couples appear with two witnesses in front of the Registrar, who conducts the ceremony, and then issues the couple with the Marriage Certificate

NOTE

  • If there is a disagreement to the proposed caveat, it is inserted and the issue is sent to the court to settle the matter.
  • A client may also opt for self-assessment by logging into the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) website at www.ura.go.u

Required Documents For Contracting a Civil Marriage

  • Identification of nationality, for example the voter’s card, passport or national identity card.
  • The LC 1 letter to show residency in any district in Uganda for minimum 15 days within the district where the marriage is planned to be sworn in.
  • A passport size photo to identify you.
  • Marriage affidavits that meet S.10 and S.10 of the Marriage Act
  • For foreign nationals, you must provide a certificate issued by the Civil Registration or Vital Statistics Office confirms that the person has not been married.

If the parties are between the ages of 18-21 old they should , in addition to the 2 above, submit:

  • Birth certificates to establish parentage.
  • A written consent from the mother or father or legal guardian
  • A photocopy of the identity of the authority that consents
