Obtain a Milk Transport Permit In Uganda By Yourself

  1. First, find an appropriate vehicle for milk transport and a competent staff to set up the business of milk. Check that the milk transport vehicle is in compliance with the set hygienic, operational specifications.
    • The export of the milk product or any milk substance unless has filed a request for reshipment and been issued by the Authority and accompanied by a Milk transport permit to transport product or dairy through rail, road or air.
  2. Contact your local Dairy Development Authority office to provide the pertinent details of your Milk Transport business and required documentations.You must visit their website by clicking the link below. Dairy Development Authority
  3. There you will receive an application form for a permit to fill out and submit. Following this, you’ll need to submit the application
  4. Prior to granting the applicant granted permission to conduct Milk Transport, the Authority will verify that the applicant has met the criteria necessary to carry the business.
  5. A request to engage in milk transport must be made in Form I , which is set out in the Third Schedule of these Regulations.
  6. The application must be accompanied by the application fee as specified in the Fourth Schedule in these Regulations.
  7. The application along with the fee mentioned above , include the following information the following:
    • The full address and name of the person applying;
    • for a company that is limited by shares in the case of a company limited by shares, the names and complete addresses of directors;
    • an obligation to provide to the Authority the Authority with samples of each batch of milk , or milk products that are to be shipped for quality testing;
  8. The permit to transport must not be withheld for any reason and will be given an applicant’s request within a time not exceeding twenty-five days following the receipt of the application from the Authority.
    • Get regular advice through DDA’s Compliance officers on their advice on Bulk container for transport (tankers) on how they should be designed and how the equipment for transport layout.
  9. When the bulk transportation container for the milk cooling facility, call the closest DDA office to arrange for an initial examination of the container’s equipment.
    • When areas of non-compliance are found in the inspections, changes are required to ensure that all is up to scratch.
  10. If everything is all in order, then you can proceed to the next step . You will need to make an application for a milk transport permitor license from the Dairy Development Authority Licensing Board.
  11. After the payment is received, the milk transport permit/license will be processed within twenty-five business days.
  12. The license is valid for a for one year, and you are able to start your business immediately.
  13. Pay the monthly dues and levy when and where appropriate. Other requirements of the license’s issuance must be adhered to (Non-compliance could result in the suspension of the permit)

Requirements to Register as Milk Transporter

  1. Cans should be made from food-grade material (aluminium or stailess steel, or plastic)
  2. Bulk containers for transport (tankers) must be designed according to the appropriate standards to allow for easy cleaning and disinfection, as well as the elimination of contamination.
  3. Open pickups are not permitted to be used to transport milk, unless the pickup is constructed so as to prevent rain and dust.
  4. Milk transporter vehicles must be maintained free of dirt at all times.
  5. Transport vehicles are not allowed to carry other objects, persons, or animals on the bed.

  • In Uganda nobody is permitted to transport milk or allow the transport of milk within a specified area, unless with an approved milk carriage permit. Any person who does not comply with this is in violation and liable to the maximum fine of 10 000 shillings, or the maximum of one year in prison, or to a sentence of not more than one year or both.
