  1. Importers must submit an application in writing to Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries to provide the following information:
    • The amount
    • The species, which includes the local as well as the complete scientific name(s)
    • Country of origin
    • Address of the facility of the importer
    • For permits that have been vetted with an Fish consultant AND / OR Research Officer. Evaluations will include:
      • Species type
      • Country of origin
      • Country’s health status in the issue
  2. If your application is in line with the above criteria, it will be accepted, it is subsequently sent by the Director of Fisheries.
  3. The Director of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries resources will then review and approve it following.
  4. The Director of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries resources will also assign an officer to remove the fish.
  5. After the fish are free, the permit can be given.
  6. The fish is then checked before being cleared by an officer.
  7. Create duplicates of these documents, and then present them in departmental Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries resources prior to clearance. The documents will be put on the file for inspection:
    • Airway bill with local and scientific names as well as amounts
    • Invoice displaying local and scientific names as well as quantities.
    • Import permit
    • Health Certificate issued by a competent authority in the country of the country of. The document must be written in English and must not be over fifteen (15) days of age
    • Documents that are reviewed by the Branch
  • NOTE 1:Issuing Duty-free status is contingent on assumption that fish are being used to serve broodstock to be used for brood stock purposes, not for retail.
  • Note 2.The Branch reserve the rights to restrict importation of certain species.

Eligibility

  • Anyone aged 18 or older and legally living within the country is eligible to get a certificate of import for live-fish.
  • Anyone who has an importation license or authorization to import live fish products in other countries than Uganda.
  • Anyone with an desire to import and has the requirements above and is imports products that do not appear on the list of restricted items.

Validity

A certificate issued by an institution’s name is valid for a year, and expires on the 31st day of each calendar year.

Instructions

  1. Import Permits can only be granted to importers who have a clear agreement of the fact that officials from the Fisheries Division will conduct all inspections and clearances.
  2. The Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources reserves the right to set those conditions that are:
    • Samples to be collected to test
    • The facility is inspected prior to the arrival of consignment and following the arrival of the shipment at the location.

The Information You Need
