Obtain License for Industrial Processing of Fish and Fishery Products In Uganda By Online

  1. A licence that permits industrial production of Fish and Fishery products can be obtained through the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries.
    • The applicant may submit an application in writing for a licence for the industrial process of the fish as well as other fishing products. The application must be sent directly to the head of fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries.
  2. Pick and Fill the required application form, as explained in the Ministry of agriculture animal industry and fisheries.
  3. Once you have completed the form, complete the form, pay the required fee and print the an invoice for payment. The applicant is asked to show the tax identification number as well as an establishment approbation number (EAN)
  4. Before you submit a fully filled form, make sure the fee for application is paid along with all the required information included in the application and accompanied along with the pay slip to the principal Fisheries Inspector in charge for International and Regional Fish Trade of the region concerned for each type of fish.
  5. The Commissioner for Fisheries must seek information and comments from the Regional chief fisheries officer as well as relevant Divisions and Branches within the Department regarding the businesses and other stakeholders in the process (comments and details are required within 5 working days from the request ). The comments should also be accompanied by the impact the new license or transfer or change in operator’s name will have on communities that are affected, the proposed operating season, job numbers and areas of employment and any quality initiatives being undertaken and the types of products that will be made) before the license is granted.
  6. The Authority will scrutinize applications as well as comments and pertinent information received from the commissioner for fisheries , the Regional Chief fisheries officer , the other Branches/Divisions and other department and agency, in addition to any responses that are in response to the proponent’s public announcement of the application.
  7. If all of the steps are completed, the applicant will get a License in the industrial process of processing fish as well as other fisheries products from the location where the application was made within 14 days of the date on which the application was received by the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries, in the event that there was no rejection.
  8. Anyone is found to have made a fraudulent declaration on an application by the Ministry of Agriculture when he or she is aware of or has a reasonable reason to believe that it is not true in any particular material fact commits an offense and is subject to a fine that is not greater than one thousand shillings, or an imprisonment term not more than six months or both.

Instruction

Anyone who, without an appropriate specific license specifically issued for this purpose–

  • involves with the process of processing fish, or other other fish product at any specified location or region; or
  • Engages in any specified location or zone, the purchase, marketing or the sale of fish is guilty of an offense.
  • Anyone who borrows or use any licence issued under the Act granted to another person, and anyone who takes advantage of such a licence is guilty of an offense and is subject to be punished for every offence if convicted to a fine that is not greater than 1 000 shillings.
