Obtain Milk Bar License or Permit In Uganda By Yourself

  8. The application should be accompanied by a fee as specified in the Fourth Schedule in these Regulations.
  9. The application along with the fee mentioned above , indicate the following:
    • complete name, address and phone number of the person applying;
    • for a company that is limited by shares for a limited company, the names and full addresses of directors;
    • A commitment to send to the Authority the Authority with samples of every lot of milk, or milk products that are to be sold for quality testing;
  10. Milk Bar permit shall be issued to the applicant. Milk Bar permit shall not be withheld without cause and must be given for the person applying within a time not exceeding twenty-five days following the receipt of the application from the Authority.
    • Consult regularly with the Compliance Officers of DDA for advice about setting up a Milk bar, and how it are designed, as well as how the layout is created.
  11. When you have completed the installation of the milk bar facility and contact the local DDA office to arrange for an initial inspection of the facility.
    • If areas of non-compliance are discovered during the inspections, changes must be made to ensure all is up to scratch.
  12. If everything is all in order, then you can proceed to the next stage and make an application for a milk bar license or permit through the Dairy Development Authority Licensing Board.
  13. After payment has been made, the milk Bar license or permit will be processed within twenty five days.
  14. The license is valid for a for one year, and it is possible to begin operations right away.
  15. Pay the monthly dues and levy in the event that it is applicable. Other terms and conditions for the license’s issue must be adhered to (Non-compliance could result in suspension of the permit)

Eligibility

  • A license for a milk bar is granted to retailers who handle smaller quantities of milk, ranging from 50 to 1,000 litres daily.
  • Milk bar facilities must be in compliance with the laid-out hygiene and operational standards. This includes compliance in the following areas;
  1. The premises should be correctly situated and designed, ventilated, lit and free of contamination
  2. Equipment: Equipment pipes accessories, as well as other contact surfaces that come in contact with milk or milk products must be simple to clean and disinfect, durable and constructed from food-grade materials
  3. Personnel: All milk handling employees should be neat and well-groomed in a well-dressed, professional attire and certified medically
  4. Record keeping: High-quality records should be kept and maintained.
  5. Waste management: Effluents as well as other solid wastes must be handled in accordance with rules and regulations
  6. Utilities: Affordable supply of potable water as well as other essential utilities, based on the kind of operation
  7. The management of premises must be overseen by a qualified manager or supervisor.
  8. Operations: Recommended processing times must be followed e.g. temperature controls for pasteurization and time control

  1. The milk bar’s premises must be prepared to be inspected by the standees.
