Uganda citizen adoption registration

  1. Go to the National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) office centre close to you. Bring all required documents and be registered with the office of the Registrar General
  2. Visit the front desk of the services department and ask for assistance with to register an adoption
  3. You will receive an application form. You must fill with precision and send it along with necessary documents to the officer , who will review the details, process them and then submit all the information to the database system of (NIRA) and your adoption registration application is completed

Foreign adoption registration

  1. The judge may usually require for an Adoption Order be registered with the Embassy of Uganda in the country where the adoptive parents reside. Uganda Embassy/Consulate around the world
  2. Visit the embassy in person with all required documents and complete the application form to submit your request complete it correctly and send it in

Required Documents For Register an Adoption

Requirements to Register an Adoption completed in Uganda

  • A certified or original Copy of the adoption order.
  • A certified copy of Birth Certificate of the child who was adopted.
  • Copies of National IDs or valid passports of parents who adopted

Requirements to Register an Adoption completed in the Embassy

  • A copy of the Court’s judgment for the adoption.
  • A copy of the adoptive parents’ photo IDs.
  • A recent photograph that clearly displaying facial characteristics.
  • The full address of where the child is expected to live. (foreign country)

Note:

  • The Order should also be registered at the Probation office as well as the National Council for Children.

  • Adoption is governed by part VII of the Children Act cap 59 of the Children Act Laws of Uganda. The registry of births and deaths is charged with maintaining an adoption register for children which the details are registered of adoptions.
