- The applicant should have an active fishing license prior to applying for insurance for fishermen’s accidents. The insurance can be availed only by fisherman/fisherwoman who are licensed/registered with the state/UT government.
- The applicants must have their fishing gear like nets, fishing rods, reels, fishing lines vessels, hooks, etc. licensed with the Directorate of Fisheries of the state prior to applying for fishermen accident insurance.

Application In Person (Via Department of Fisheries)
- Candidates must visit the office or sub-offices for the Department of Fisheries in your district to apply in the category of “Fishermen Injury Group Insurance”.
- Take your ” Fishmen’s Incident Group Insurance” application form at the fisheries office.
- Fill in the form with all the information required and make sure that you have all the documents that you require they appear in the “Required Documents” section on this page.
- After filling in the form, attach the required documents that are listed under the “Required Documents” section to the application form that you have completed.
- Examine the application form, and then forward it to the authority in charge.
- Pay the fees to apply for the relevant authority.
- The verification officer after validating the application form and the documents will provide you with an acknowledgement/receiving slip.
- Collect the acknowledgement/receiving slip and keep it safe for future reference.
- This application is considered further in-house by the relevant authorities.
- When it’s processed and the insurance paperwork is prepared, the applicant will be sent an SMS or call to the mobile number that is registered to pick it up.
- The applicant will be required to carry the acknowledgement/receiving slip along with them when going to collect the documents from the office or sub-office of the Department of Fisheries of their respective district.

- The applicants must go to at the office of the district district or primary level cooperative federation for fishermen and fisheries to submit an application to be considered for “Fishermen accident group insurance”. - Pay the cost of application to the relevant authority.

Eligibility
- Applicant must be a fisherman/fisherwoman by caste or by occupation.
- The applicant must fall within the ages of 18 – 60 years.
- Applicant must hold an official fishing license from the state or UT government.
- The applicant must be a citizen of India.
- The applicant must be a citizen of the State or UT.
Fees
- The application fee is not charged from fishermen who wish to make an application for Fisherman Group Accident Insurance.
Validity
The insurance protection in the Fisherman Accident Group Insurance will last for 12 months.
Instructions
- Before you apply for insurance, be registered or licensed with the State or UT Government.
- In the application form, include your name, the nominee(s) as well as the percentage of shares per nominee in the application form.

- “Fishermen Accident Group Insurance” is an insurance policy that is issued to groups from the Insurance Company in favour of FISHCOPFED (National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives Ltd.) and the agency that sponsors all fishermen, fishermen who have been who are insured by the insurance.
- FISHCOPFED (National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives Ltd.) is the highest-level organization of fishermen’s cooperatives in India.
- Sponsoring Agency is an organization that provides group insurance for its members. Sponsor Agency may be an State Government / UT Government or Cooperative Society / Federation of Fishermen / Fisheries / Fish farmers or any other such organization that are registered with the State Government of UT or FISHCOPFED.
- Fishermen include a fisherman/fisherwoman by caste or by profession licensed/registered with the State /UT government.
- Fishermen member is a fisherman/fisherwoman who is an enrolled member of a registered cooperative society/organization of fisheries/ Federation of Fishermen / Fisheries etc.
- The annual cost for a fisherman who is a part of the program is INR 15, per person.
- 50% of the amount is provided through the Central Government as a subsidized grant-in aid, the rest 50% will be paid by State Governments. State Government.
- In the situation that there are Union Territories, 100% premiums will be paid through the Central Government as a subsidized grant-in-aid.
- A person who is applying for insurance will be covered for INR 50,000 in case of accidental death as well as permanent disability
- A person who is applying for insurance will be covered for INR Rs.25,000 to cover the possibility of permanent partial disability.
- A contribution of no kind to the premium is expected from fishermen.
- The program will include fishermen who are involved in coastal and inshore fishing.
